Impulse Biomed develops affordable, sustainable, user-friendly medical devices inspired by the everyday needs of real people. Through our patient-first approach to innovation, we’re reimagining medical device technology around the world. When you’re faced with a medical emergency, you want the peace of mind that the device you reach for was created by Impulse Biomed.

Global allergy rates are on the rise.

The world needs patient-centric healthcare solutions for allergy sufferers. %%coral%%We’re building them.%%coral%%

By 2025, it’s expected that half the European population will be affected by allergic disease. In the US, 40-50% of school children are sensitive to common allergens. Meanwhile, urbanisation, environmental changes, and lifestyle shifts are driving up allergy rates in developing countries, too.

The world needs patient-centric healthcare solutions for allergy sufferers. We’re building them.

Unfortunately, for many people, the solutions currently available just don’t cut it.

  • Children and elderly people with asthma find inhalers difficult to operate due to the finger strength required.
  • Without a dosage counter, inhalers may run out and not be replaced.
  • For children, inhalers often carry a stigma.
  • Anaphylaxis treatments are costly and wasteful.
  • Auto-injectors place a large financial burden on both patients and healthcare systems, as they must be replaced annually.

“Those in need of healthcare technologies should be able to access them. It’s a simple concept, and yet it’s not a reality. Why?”

“We want to connect companies that are innovating with companies that connected to logistics and infrastructure – put them in a room together and find pathways and relationships that build the entire continent up in terms of medical devices.”

“A little girl walked in, about six years old, accompanied by her mom. We handed her a standard asthma pump and asked her to activate it. Unfortunately, she was unable to do so. She didn’t have enough strength in her hands and fingers to push down the cannister and activate the pump. So, we handed her our device and asked her to activate it and, to her surprise, she was able to do so. Her face lit up. She was so excited. Her mom had a sigh of relief, knowing her daughter could use her own asthma pump when Mom’s not around. It’s moments like these that make it worthwhile for us.”

%%coral%%A fresh approach
%%coral%% to medical device development.

Imagine the desperate frustration of being in a medical emergency situation, holding the medicine that can save your life in your hands, but you can’t get it into your body.  Unfortunately, that’s the reality for many people – especially vulnerable members of society, like children and the elderly. The medicine exists, but the delivery mechanism makes it inaccessible, either through prohibitive costs or because the device is too complicated or difficult to use.

We want to make sure no one ever has to be in that situation – fumbling with a clumsy tool while fighting for their lives. That’s why we’ve embraced a culture of compassionate design. We pair expertise in medical device technology with the power of listening and observing. We’re constantly asking, “How can this be better for the person who has to use it?”

Every innovation created by Impulse Biomed begins with real people sharing real stories of the challenges they face trying to access medicine. Whether it’s the confusing mechanics of a clumsy operating system or the fear of social stigma for having a chronic condition, these are human challenges that require practical solutions. We provide those solutions.
